HAKI Temporary Roof is Polygonal first in the UK
Release Date: November 2005

Replacing the roof slates on one of the most historic buildings in Cardiff called for meticulous planning and the creation of the first HAKITEC polygonal shape roofing shelter system in the UK.

Contractor SHS Scaffolding Ltd selected the HAKITEC 750 Temporary Roofing system to satisfy a checklist of requirements prior to commencing work on the former Customs' House, now the Pierhead Building, an annex to the Welsh Parliament Building.

To solve the problem of complete containment over the very tall chimneystacks, SHS Scaffolding formed the impressive polygonal temporary roof shelter to give total weather protection over the whole area.

The superior strength to weight ratio of HAKITEC 750 also eliminated the need for a 24m internal spine beam and therefore gave a greater clear span compared to tube and fitting.

"The extreme versatility of the HAKI temporary roof allowed the main sub-contractor Knox & Wells to work safely while completely protected from all the elements. This was a prime concern for us as the building is located on the edge of Cardiff Bay and is frequently subject to high winds" commented Paul Smith, SHS Scaffolding Ltd "It also meant that the Parliament building was fully operational throughout without the need to vacate the staff while the work was being carried out due to safety reasons" he added.

All HAKI system products are stringently tested and fully comply with the latest European standards EN12810 and EN12811. For more information on HAKITEC 750 System and to discuss all your access requirements please contact Mike Heath on 01827 282525.
